06.22.12 = Flashback Friday 1974 – A horse for her Birthday

Every year when we were young, my Mom & Dad would ask us what we wanted for our Birthdays/Christmas, and my younger sisters reply was always the same; “a horse”. She always wanted a horse. When she was really young, she had a hard time grasping the concept of why she couldn’t keep one in the back yard. There was plenty of room back there and grass to eat. He could even stay in the garage during the winter. As she got older, her reasoning to get a horse and to keep a horse matured. She then suggested to my Grandparents, that they get the horse and keep it out in the country at their house. She would come spend the summers with them and take care of it. Sounds reasonable right? One summer on a visit to my Grandparents house, my Grandfather said he got her a horse for her birthday! He made the horse from a saw horse, put a cushion on it as a saddle and gave it a stick head and reins and they, very appropriately, named him Woodstock. She spent hours that summer pretending and playing make-believe with that horse. Over the years she finally gave up the idea of owning a horse and traded up to horsepower instead, but I know she will never forget the summer of Woodstock! Happy Birthday Kasey!
