03.09.12 = Flashback Friday 1975 – Pay attention

Knitting, sewing, quilting, embroidery, between my two grandmothers, they did it all. Years after their passing, I still have all the wonderful gifts they made me through the years. I’ve talked many times about my coveted quilts that my one grandmother made me, but I also have afghans and warm wooly sweaters that my other grandmother made me. Every year she made us something. My Junior year in High School, my grandmother knitted me an awesome sweater using my school colors, green and gold, that I wore for my school picture that year. I really loved that sweater. The last one she made for me, was a pattern and yarn we picked out together. It required a big sort of button and we couldn’t find one we liked. Not to worry she said, I’ll find something. She ended up taking a button off a coat she had made years prior that she wasn’t wearing any longer. I wore that sweater practically to death. I still have all my sweaters wrapped and carefully stored away. And even though their wonderful gifts live on and I hold them dear, I wish I had paid more attention and learned more from them, so I too, could pass it on. Such wonderful women with extraordinary talents, don’t let them slip away.
