01.27.12 = Flashback Friday – Family Heirlooms
As I browsing for a photo to share for Flashback Friday, I passed over these two photos a few times before settling on them. It’s not about the photos of my sister at age two or so, it’s about the furniture you see in the photos. The story goes that my mother, when she was in the 8th grade, purchased a bedroom set with money she had earned and saved. It was a HUGE deal and she was so proud of it. Friends came over just to see it. There was a tall dresser and the vanity that are in the photos and possibly a third piece? I’m sure she’ll correct me when she reads this. Anyway, this furniture appears in many photos through the years. It’s even in my Mothers wedding photo’s when my grandmother is helping her with her veil. They have been painted almost every color of the rainbow through the years to match the décor of the room they have settled in. The vanity was split up and made into two separate night stands. It has to be some of the strongest furniture ever made because we used to my youngest sister in the bottom drawer for fun! I think all four of us girls have used it at some point in our lives and now it’s going to the next generation. My niece has one of the nightstands in her apartment away at school. I have the large dresser here at my house and offered it to my other niece for her apartment at school, but it was far too big for what she needed right now. So, I will hang onto it and it will continue to store my linens until it’s called upon again to be painted, have its drawers slammed and be part of another girl’s room.

on January 28, 2012What a great story! I remember some furniture of my grandmother's and my mother's that had a similar variety of uses throughout the years. Neat shot, as well.
