06.29.12 = Flashback Friday – Camping 1972
Five females, a dog, a camper and no bathroom? In todays world it might seem impossible or just outright insane, but back in the day, we did it. Back in the early 70’s my parents bought a great little pop-up camper. We packed it all up and hitched it to the back of our 1972 Ford Country Squire station wagon, and off we went. I believe the very first overnight outing, it rained like nobody’s business all night and in the morning, all the campers in the campground were stuck in the mud. They had to bring in tractors to pull everyone out. With that hurtle over, we went camping for many years and across state after state. We camped by forests and streams in Tennessee and at the edge of the beaches in Florida. So many great times and priceless memories.
“Camping; the original social network.” Coleman
“But the place which you have selected for you camp, though never so rough and grim, begins at once to have its attractions and becomes a very centre of civilization to you: Home is home, be it never so homely.” Henry David Thoreau
