08.26.11 = Flashback Friday 1972, 73’
Back when I was growing up, well before Cable TV, VCR’s, DVD’s, DVR’s and all those other fancy electronic do-dad’s, our TV consisted of 3 network stations and 2 and sometimes 3, if the wind was blowing in the right direction, public broadcasting stations. We didn’t have a remote control, ah wait minute, we did have a remote control, ME, I was always closest to the TV. Anyway, every year around Thanksgiving there was a special treat on TV; The Wizard of Oz. We LOVED that movie and so looked forward to it each and every year. We would all put our Jammies on, grab our pillows from our beds and lay down on the floor and watch it together as a family. Mom would always have a “special snack” for us too. Not just ice cream, but ice cream with hot fudge, nuts and whipped cream. Dad would always lay down on the floor with us and watch as well. It’s still a favorite movie in the Dunlap house. All my nieces and nephews have watched it with my parents and the family and even had “special snacks”. I hope they have the same great memories as I do.

on October 3, 2011What a treasure this one is...my children were just about your age in 72 and I'm sure my husbands hair looked just like your dad's...love it.

on August 31, 2011One of my favorite family photos - looks like I might be asleep there on the near end. I've seen this photo so many times - but this is the first time I noticed the USNews magazine "Lessons from Vietnam" looks like the title - makes the cozy family shot even more poignant when you think of what was happening in the world then...

on August 28, 2011This brought back such wonderful memories! What an occasion it was, when the Wizard of Oz was broadcast. And I, too, was my Dad's remote control! Love it!

on August 26, 2011I love this, we had a similar tradition. Although, I recall a nap was always ordered by my Mom so we could stay up to watch the movie. Now I think she just needed a break, lol!
