03.17.11 = Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Lucky me, I’m Irish, ah, no Scottish, Welsh, English and a bit of Austrian/German thrown in to make things interesting. My father and I started our genealogy project in 2003 and discovered that Dunlap originates from DunlOp which is Scottish. In fact, there is a House (castle) of Dunlop in Ayrshire, Scotland, not far from Glasgow. It is said that after losing their land in a war with England, some of the family moved to Northern Ireland and changed the their name to DunlAp. So most of us Dunalps claim to be Irish. Irish, Scottish, English, German, no matter, we are all Americans now.
This is one of my favorite photo’s from my trip to Ireland a few years ago, in the quaint coastal town of Kinsale.
“May you always have walls for the winds,
A roof for the rain,
Tea beside the fire,
Laughter to cheer you, those you love near you,
And all your heart might desire.”
