10.17.11 = Flashback Friday (on Monday) 1969
Sorry I missed the Flashback Friday last week. Things got a bit busy for me. After catching grief from two of my sisters and my mother for not posting it, I thought I had better get it done today.
As I was stopped at an intersection last week, there was a guy dressed up as a, a, well, I’m not sure what he was really, but he was dressed up and on the corner with a sign advertising the Halloween store that opened up. It made me think back to all those costumes that my mother made us over the years. I remember that excitement of deciding what we wanted to be, shopping to pick the fabric and then being fitted. But there was nothing like that feeling when you put your costume on for the first time and then mom completed the look with some make-up. It was always so much fun. When we were little, Dad used to walk us from house to house. I can remember some of the neighbors would give him a treat of a can of beer. This Halloween, I was Jeannie from “I Dream of Jeannie” and Kasey, the devil. I remember this year because it was really cold that night and Mom made us bundle up with multiple layers under our costumes which made them a bit tight. After all was done, we would come home and dump our bags out and start sorting and making candy trades. “I’ll give you two coconut creams for one Baby Ruth.”
Good times.

on October 19, 2011I was there when this photo was taken no one made better costumes Than mom it didn't matter if you wanted to be a basic witch or an exotic Jeannie she made your dream come true. When you left the house you felt special and no one looked better.

on October 18, 2011Awesome!!! Yeah, that takes me back to one of my first Halloweens. My Mom decided to let me go to the doors by myself while she tagged along in the car. I was so shy and frightened by it all, I was dragging my bag on the wet grass from house to house, the other kids were following behind picking up all my candy...Mom came to the rescue, of course...

on October 17, 2011Great shot and jogs some good memories from the past of both Patti and myself. Patti recounted to me how one year she was costumed as a skunk and doused herself with bottles of cheap perfume for her odor. I remember that there were always rumors of some house somewhere that was handing out whole candy apples or even dollar bills!....but somehow we never were ever able to find that house :-) . Getting back home and dumping out and looking and playing with all your candy loot was always such fun. Sometimes we would go back out for a second round! I am wondering if kids nowadays have as much pure simple fun with it as we did back then. Gald you created this community. It is such a treat as compared to the Dailies now.
