Read More02.26.16 = Flashback Friday = Dirty Girls
Since I haven't been posting as much lately, I thought it would be a good idea to bring back Flashback Friday at least.
I was walking through the store the other day and was accidently detoured down the toy isle. With my youngest nephew turning 21 a few weeks ago, it's been a long time since I've ventured through that tunnel of over stimulation. It was crazy; each box and package with more colors than a carnival. Lights and sounds coming from all around… As I rounded the corner desperately seeking a way out, it only got worse, I was now in the "girl" isle. Pink and purple pony's, pink and purple doll houses with heart shaped doors, pink and purple stuffed animals, pink and purple EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE!
I can't even begin to describe the princess experience, it really made me ill. Since when did we start limiting the selection of toys for little girls to pink and purple? With four girls in my family, not one of us ever had a pink or purple room and anything to do with a princess'. In fact, if you were called a princess, it was an insult. Thank goodness my mother encouraged to get dirty, to run a play. She also taught us so much about nature. We learned all the different songs birds that came to the yard. We learned how to identify the trees, leaves and flowers. Thank you Mother Nature! I'm glad I was a dirty girl!
