07.06.12 = Flashback Friday – Little Mermaids - 1965’ish
I love this photo of my two older sisters in our little kiddy pool on the driveway. We had that little pool for many years until we graduated to the sprinkler and then on to the neighborhood pool. I can’t begin to guess just how many hours I spent in a pool as a kid. With pool’s and sprinklers came bathing suites, beach towels, toys and that old familiar smell of Coppertone. On Saturdays we would go as a family to the neighborhood pool. We loaded up the Ford Country Squire with all the blow-up floaties, the big cooler, the family beach bag and plenty of beach towels. We would all walk in carrying something and then the hunt began for a good spot and few lounge chairs to claim it with. Who remembers adult swim and Marco Polo? Laughter, the life guard’s whistle, the sound of a big splash, the hot pool deck on the bottom of your feet, the feeling of water dripping off you as you stand there asking your Dad for .10 cents for a snow cone…Ahh, the sounds and the feeling of summer.

on Jul 07This really brings back memories form my younger days at the pool. Not only did we use Coppertone but also baby oil with iodine mixed in it. Silly us, we were frying ourselves. Great shot.
