This gallery is collection of photographs, thoughts and quotes of what is happening in my little section of the world and how I see it. And even though I call this “The Daily Post” I may not be able to post daily. I travel every week so I’m not always at my computer to post, however I’m never without my camera! I hope you enjoy this gallery as much as I enjoy putting it together. So, here’s to 2010 and the way I see it.

10.28.10 = Little nut

“Todays mighty oak is yesterdays little nut that wouldn’t give up.”
10.27.10 = October’s Party

I just wanted to post this last bit of Fall color, because after the storm and high winds that rolled through here yesterday, I’m sure it’s gone.

“October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came –
The Chestnuts, Oaks and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.”
George Cooper,  October’s Party
10.26.10 = Hanging in there

I’m in a love hate relationship with my computer, the internet and anything else electronic lately. I must have some weird electromagnetic charge running through my body that sends everything I touch haywire. Good grief. And what is up with all these updates, Java, Adobe, Windows, QuickTime… It’s all a little nuts. And can someone explain why Adobe loaded McAfee security on my computer while doing an update? But, like I said, it’s a love hate relationship. I do love my Google and reading my favorite Blogs. I like my SmugMug, except uploading large galleries, and I like reading what everyone is up to on FB. So, I guess we have to some bad with the good and hang on. This too shall pass until the next round of updates.

10.21.10 = Burning Leaves

Last evening on my way home, there was a wonderful chill in the air and that great smell of Fall was lingering. I opened my sunroof and cracked a few windows to fill the car with that amazing air. Did I mention there was a chill in the air? Rather than close the windows, I turned on the heat and my heated seat to stop from shivering. I’m so glad I did, because just then it hit me; that amazing smell of burning leaves! If that’s not Fall, I don’t know what is. I love that smell and I love those guys who burn the leaves. Growing up in the burbs, we didn’t burn the leaves. I’m sure there was some major fire code in Montgomery against that. We just had to rake and bag them. But there was always that smell just faintly lingering on a little breeze. I said a little prayer and thanked God for the guys who burn their leaves. If you happen to be one of those guys who burn the leaves, THANK YOU! Keep it up, you make fall wonderful!

We have had our summer evenings, now for October eves!” Humbert Wolfe
10.20.10 = Outtakes

Patience. Photography is about patience. Just wait...wait...wait for the right shot. There is just a split second that a butterfly’s wings are completely open, or that a bumble bee on a flower is completely in focus and sharp. And there is just a moment that a quilt is hanging on a line and is artfully blowing in the wind that doesn’t have a dog in the frame! These are just a few outtakes from my quilt series that I thought you might enjoy!

1.	The quilt if beginning to fill with air…
2.	Dog enters frame on bottom right
3.	Dog pushes rubber chicken into camera
4.	Okay, there’s a dog on one side and the quilts are flat, wait for it….
5.	Nice! The quilts fell back and no one will know there is a dog on the other side!
6.	Dog with rubber chicken in the middle and another leaving the frame bottom left
7.	I thought it would be cute with Lucy just peeking around the quilt, then comes Gracie with that rubber chicken!
8.	In comes Lucy to hog the photo op from Digby. What a day!

“Patience is the ability to idle your motor when you feel like stripping your gears.” Barbara Johnson
10.19.10 = Quilts

This is the time of the year when I love to open the windows and let all the cool air in and then snuggle under my favorite quilts; the quilts that my grandmother made. It brings back a flood of memories of her and the country house. A modest home full of love, great conversation, wonderful food and a lot of common sense, or “horse sense” as she would call it. Hanging the quilts on the line is something she always did. Come to think of it, I don’t think she had a dryer until much later. I remember her telling me that when the wind blew, it picked up all the smells from around the yard and the quilt would catch it and keep it. Then you could smell all the flowers from the yard, the corn in the field and trees from the grove, all in your quilt as you slept at night. It’s true, you can smell all of it. But what I smell when I breath deep is her, and all the love she put into each square. It’s like getting a big hug from her all over again.

10.18.10 = Vine Ripe

It’s not easy growing up. It’s tough on kids/teens/young adults, but I think it’s equally tough on the parents and knowing when to let go. Telling themselves that they CAN’T always make everything right. Life is difficult and it is through those difficulties that we grow and really learn about ourselves. It builds our character and the next level of our experiences and in turn, prepares us to deal with our next challenge. Vine ripe, time to let go.

“A bend in the road is not the end of the road….unless you fail to make the turn.” Unknown
10.17.10 = Generous Harvest

It’s been a busy week. My mother had surgery this week and I’ve been running between the hospital, her house, my house and even my sister’s house. Dad and I have been making sure she is comfortable and has everything she needs. The mug with the bendy straw, the remote for the TV; her Chapstick and Kleenex. The right PJ’s that don’t stick to the sheets and right blankets that aren’t too heavy but warm enough. Making sure the room is bright enough to see but just dark enough to fall asleep, and helping her in and out of bed. And if all that sounds a little much, it’s not. It’s really not near enough. This is the woman who has set at my bedside more time than I can count. This is the woman who nursed my father through heart surgery, colon cancer and two hip replacements. This is the woman who stayed with my with sisters after the birth of every child. And no matter how old we get or how far away we are, we still call her for a dose of mother comfort when we are under the weather. So now, it’s her turn.

“We must give more in order to get more. It is the generous giving of ourselves that produces the generous harvest.” Orison Swett Marden
