The Daily Post - 2012 Photo Journal : 2012 begins the forth year of my somewhat, Daily Post. It's a gallery or photo journal, of my photography that reflects the in's and out's, the up's and down's and everthing in between. Some days the photo's may be better than the commentary, while other days, the commentary is much better than the photo. No promises that either will be very good. Anyway, it's my way. The Daily Post - 2011 Photo Journal : I've named this gallery "The Daily Post" but I can't promise that I will post every day. This gallery is more of a journal of what's going on in my little section of this world we all share. The Daily Post 2010 - Photo Journal : This gallery is collection of photographs, thoughts and quotes of what is happening in my little section of the world and how I see it. And even though I call this “The Daily Post” I may not be able to post daily. I travel every week so I’m not always at my computer to post, however I’m never without my camera! I hope you enjoy this gallery as much as I enjoy putting it together. So, here’s to 2010 and the way I see it.

06.07.09 = Get ready for some butterflys this week! Yesterday we went to the Butterfly Show at Krohn Conservatory here in Cincinnati, Ohio. It's an annual show here and a must see. You enter an enclosed area and all the butterflys just fly around you. They have all their favorite plants for them and they just land at will. Quite the photo opp, but you all know what it's like photographing a butterfly! I thought this one was a great way to start the week!

Sorry, I'm a few days behind on everyone's posts. Can't wait to see what everyone's been up to the past few days.

07.05.09 = I'm not a big fan of clowns; they kind of freak me out. This guy was part of the parade on Saturday and when he saw me with my camera he posed so nicely,,,, he was so cute. I probably will reget posting this one, because it will freak me out a little each time I see it. It's Monday, hope everyone has a great week.

Yes, I used to pester my sisters growing up. I was the one, "I'm not touching you..." But growing up, my mother "made us" get along. If we got in a fight, she would make us sit on the step until we worked it out. We were never allowed to stay mad at each other. Today, we are each other's best friends. I talk to at least one or two of my sisters every day. I love you Kelly, Kim and you too Kasey!

10.20.09 = Ahhhhhhhh, Coffee! I've been drinking coffee since I was little. Our Grandmother, Mimi use to fix us coffee when we went to visit her at the country house. She put so much cream and sugar in it that it tasted like sweet milk. It didn't matter, we thought we were so cool drinking coffee like the adults. There was coffee on the stove all day too. Now, I'm not one of those fancy coffee drinkers, no *$'s for this girl, I prefer Dunkin, or I PERK it myself. Yes, that's right, PERK. No drip coffee in this house. If you're passionate about your coffee, pick up a perkulator. You will enjoy the difference.
So what's your brew? Are you a fancy coffee drinker or a hard core french press type??

05.28.09 = I promise, this is my last dandelion post! I just had to post the different stages. Now, before you start pulling these fuzz balls and yellow dots out of your gardens and yards, did you know that dandelions have antioxidant properties and there are a host of things you can make from dandelions, such as WINE, jelly, facial srubs....

Well, after all my ranting this week about weeds and how we don't appreciate them, I have to admit, they are still an eye sore in my garden and yard and I must confess, I just bought a big bottle of Round-Up.

01.04.10 = Still life.
Well, it’s Monday and my life will be anything but still today! After a long and peaceful vacation it’s time to hit the pavement again.
I didn’t get out yesterday and face the cold so I have resolved to photographing fruit. I had fun playing with this photo in PS. I added a watercolor filter and played around with brush strokes. I may have to go and do some more tweaking on this one and lighten it up. Your thoughts? It reminded me of an oil painting still life.

Oprah put it on her "Favorite Things" list a few years ago, and there was a 4 month waiting list to get it. 07.15.09 = Okay, call me crazy, but as I have gotten older, I really like getting up early in the morning. It seems to be that time of the day that is quite and has a pure peacfulness about it. No blackberry buzzing yet, no phone ringing, no "dong" of email. Morning reminds me of the innocence of childhood. Hey, I think I'll use that as my quote today.

06.28.09 = Gracie and her Chicken. This little girl is in love with this rubber chicken. By the way, it squeeks! I have to make sure she hasn't carried it upstairs to bed. Nothing like waking up at 2:30am to a squeeking chicken! I had to post this one today, Monday, to get me going. Hope it brings a smile to your face as well.

Thanks for all the comments on my Lexington shot yesterday. Yes, those are stables for horses. Crazy uh?

10.14.09 = Dancing shadows. I loved how the shadows of the leaves danced on the side of this bright red barn. Bright blue skies, red barns, green grass and white fences.....perfect comp for photo don't you think? Sorry I've missed posting for a few days but I've been out of town and running like a mad woman. Is it Friday yet?

09.16.09 = Best Friend! The saying goes that "Dog is a Man's best friend." I don't doubt that but I also think that "Dog is a Woman's best friend" as well. Dogs are so uninhibited. They live in moment, in the now. There's nothing better than coming home to that big wagging tail. She wags and dances about like a child on Christmas morning. How wonderful to be loved by a dog. How lucky I am.

07.14.09 = Sorry you're getting another Sunflower shot today. I had planned on a new series that I shot, however, I don't like any of them so they will be trashed. Don't you hate when you think you have something really good only to find when you load it, nothing looks good? So, we are back to the tried and true; Sunflowers. This shot was also taken at sunrise. This is SOOC nothing has been done it.

09.24.09 = Hello my Daily friends! Sorry I haven't had time to post this week. It's going to be a few more crazy weeks for me coming up. I am headed into a very busy season at work so my posting will be sporadic. This shot of Lucy is about how I feel at the end of the week. I've been running all week and need to re-group to start all over next week.

11.23.10 = Happiness shared

I couldn’t let an opportunity to shoot Maeve pass me by! I always love Maeve posts from Carole and now I get to post one as well. What a fun, sweet and happy little girl she is. You can see the joy in Carole’s photo’s and she is just as you would expect in person. Curious about the world around her and to see the joy that a simple rose can bring her, is just what childhood be. Surrounded by such a loving family, let me tell ya, this is one special little girl! Thanks again Carole, I had a great time.

08.09.09 = I had fun at this car show. All the old cars had so much style. It just seems we don't have a lot of cars these days with such style. In 50 years will we be walking car shows looking at a 4-door green Camry? In our quest to make cars more fuel effecient, more affordable and more areodynamic, it seems we lost our sense of style.

12.23.09 = Gracie and I set out for a walk the other day in the city. It was so quiet and peaceful. There was no hustle or bustle, just a few joggers and fellow dog walkers. I just loved how the trees seemed to hold hands over the pathway. It’s like they have been growing and growing just tall enough to reach each other. How nice of them to grow together now and shelter our way.

01.16.10 = What’s up Doc?

I never anticipated this fruit and now vegetable series lasting this long. It really started out of desperation and rummaging through my refrigerator and finding a stray orange in the back. But I have to say, I have really enjoyed photographing this series. Typically my photography is photographing what is there at the time, such as landscapes, flowers, butterflies… But setting up the shot and creating it, well it’s just not something I have done much of in the past. So this has been a fun challenge for myself and pushing me outside of my comfort zone. Thank you to all my fellow SmugMuggers, for your support on this project. Your encouragement and positive feedback has made all the difference.

06.29.09 = Now I really understand that saying "Busy as a Bee." Let me tell ya', these little guys are tough to photograph. He didn't stop moving, I just got lucky to get one in focus. I guess if you take enough, you are bound to get one. Love that new macro lens!

I am sorry to report that I read some really nasty comments made by some "Guests" about some peoples work here. Seems there has been a lot of that going around. Just a thought from Mark Twain:

11.11.09 = I've been so busy these past few weeks that I haven't had time to post. Well, today, Veterans Day, I'm not too busy to say Thank You to all our Veterans. Thank you for service and all the sacrifices you have made in the fight for freedom around the world. It is through your spirit that I am honored and proud to call myself and American!

I saw these lovely radishes and they just begged me to photograph them. I still have some fruit to photograph, however, I need to wait until some of them are in season, so I am on to veggies!

12.29.09 = Traditions.
This is the time of year for traditions and this is one in my family; Potica. (Pronounced po-TEET-za) I don’t know if any of you have ever heard of it. I think I have only meet one other person who has ever had it. It’s a type of nut bread that you roll. The goodies inside are ground walnuts with cinnamon and sugar. It’s fantastic. My grandmother used to send us a care package at Christmas filled with all sorts of cookies, candies and 1 loaf of Potica. It’s tradition to eat a slice Christmas morning. About a year or two after my grandmother passed away, my oldest sister Kelly had a dream. She dreamed that the four of us sisters made the bread for my mother. So, we secretly snagged the recipe from my mother’s house and made the bread. We had never made it before and it’s a very involved recipe. Well, it’s been 15 years ago since our first flour filled day and we have made it every year since. One year there was a snow storm, another year my sister Kim left the hospital with kidney stones to come bake. The doctor said are sure your want to go, that must be some kind of bread! Even after Kelly moved to Texas, she made it home several times to bake. A few years ago, our cousins joined in and it’s become quite a wonderful production. A day filled with family, laughter, a little flour and the smell of Potica lingering in the air. I hope you all have wonderful traditions of your own that create those wonderful holiday memories.

06.27.09 = Not a bad place to call home huh? This is one of the many stables, yes, I said stables in Lexington, Kentucky. They take their Horses seriously down there and treat them like royalty. Well, let’s face it, most of those horses will make more in their short career’s than I ever will.

I loved the composition of the shot however, I was shooting in such bright direct sunlight, that I couldn’t get a really good shot of it. I’ve always felt that I didn’t do the scene justice. I still love how that tree just curves into the barn as to protect it from the weather. Like a good friend watching over you.
